Note: a befriender is not a counsellor, or in any way a professional, but someone who is willing to share time with someone in the hope that this will help them. They will provide a listening ear and support during difficult time. Befrienders have an understanding of what you experience, but they do not offer any form of treatment.
Any advice given must be seen as that of a friend and not a professional.
How can the ‘Restore’ Befriender scheme help?
When you are in the midst of an eating disorder it is hard to believe that you will ever get through it and full recovery is possible. It seems terribly
powerful and to have such control. At times like this it can be really helpful to talk to someone who knows what it is like and therefore encourage you and help you to maintain hope.
We aim to:-
Serve adults (16yrs+) from all faiths or none and from all walks of life
Link sufferers who are struggling with an eating disorder, with someone who has had their own experience of recovery, so that a friendship can develop.
Link those who are currently supporting and caring for a sufferer with someone who has cared for a person with an eating disorder, so that they can feel supported and encouraged and have a friend who understands the difficulties of a carer
It is our hope and prayer for those still suffering that this will help them to walk the road to recovery, also that carers will be supported in their difficult role
