But the Counsellor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”— John 14:26
Understanding the concept of the Holy Spirit is not easy.
We believe there is one God and yet we can find Him in three persons. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Discovering God the Son is relatively easy (See Why Jesus?). Just before His death and resurrection Jesus said that He would be returning to His Father in heaven and that He would send another counsellor to be with us forever, the Spirit of Truth. You can check this out in the Bible at John 14. We can now experience God in our own hearts and lives as He comes through His Holy Spirit to dwell within us. Why Jesus? explains how this can become a reality in our own lives. Christians need the Holy Spirit to help us to change. Giving up worldly ambition and instead showing Christ like love both to our friends and our enemies does not come easily at all! We need to continually ask Christ to live in and through us by His Spirit in order to find the power to change.
You can find in the Bible that most of the book of Acts is taken up with recording the change that came about after the first disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit.
We believe the same Holy Spirit is available today to fill us and to change and to help us as we seek to live for God in the 21st Century.
“If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?”— Luke 11:13
